About Chance Shelter
Chance Shelter is a community-based nonprofit working to keep pets and the people who love them together.
We believe the best place for a loved pet is with the family who loves them. But financial hardship, unexpected emergencies, veterinary expenses, or other life circumstances can make it difficult for families to continue caring for their pets.
That’s where we come in.
Chance Shelter connects families with resources and support that can help them overcome these challenges and keep their pets at home. When keeping a pet is no longer possible, we also help families navigate safe and responsible rehoming.
Our goal is simple: keep pets with the people who love them whenever possible.
OUR FOUR PILLARS
Chance Shelter focuses on four ways we can support pets and the people who love them.
Helping families access the veterinary care and preventive services their pets need.
Veterinary assistance, spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and other preventive care can make a difference in keeping pets healthy and at home.
Helping families meet the everyday needs of their pets.
Pet food, supplies, and basic resources can help families experiencing financial hardship continue caring for the pets they love.
Connecting people with resources when they need them most.
Through community outreach, partnerships, and crisis support, we help families find resources and navigate difficult situations without having to give up their pets.
When keeping a pet is no longer possible, we help create a safe next chance.
Life circumstances can change. When a family can no longer keep their pet, Chance Shelter provides guidance and rehoming assistance to help find a safe and appropriate new home.
Our Programs & Services
Crisis Intervention
Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes families face emergencies that threaten their ability to care for their pets. Our crisis intervention program partners with first responders and community agencies to provide immediate support when it’s needed most. We supply resources, temporary assistance, and guidance to help families navigate difficult situations without having to surrender their pets. From natural disasters to personal hardships, we’re there to ensure pets and their people can stay together through the storm.
Community Outreach
Chance Shelter is more than an organization—we’re your neighbors. We believe in the power of community connection and actively participate in local events throughout the year. Whether it’s hosting adoption events, attending community festivals, or providing educational workshops on pet care and responsible ownership, we’re committed to being a visible, accessible resource. Our outreach efforts help spread awareness about pet welfare, connect families with services, and strengthen the bonds within our community.
Low Cost Pet Services
Access to affordable veterinary care is one of the biggest challenges facing pet owners today. Through the generosity of grants and donations, Chance Shelter is developing partnerships with local veterinarians to bring mobile spay and neuter clinics directly to neighborhoods throughout our service area. These mobile clinics will make it easier and more affordable for families to access essential pet health services without the barrier of transportation or high costs. By preventing pet overpopulation and improving animal health, we’re investing in a better future for our entire community.
Looking Forward
Since 2015, we’ve grown alongside the community we serve, adapting our programs to meet evolving needs and expanding our reach to help more families keep their pets. Every day, we see the profound impact that keeping a pet in their home has—not just on the animal, but on the entire family. With continued community support, we’re building a future where no loving pet owner has to face the heartbreak of giving up their companion due to circumstances beyond their control.
At Chance Shelter, every pet gets a chance, and every family gets the support they deserve.
Our crisis intervention provides first responders with the resources and support needed to help keep pets with their families.
We love our community and we always try to be involved in many of our community events.
Through grants and donations Chance Shelter’s future plans include working together with a local veterinarian to bring mobile spay and neuter clinics to several locations within our community.

Thank you, Chance Shelter, for your amazing help earlier this month! My wife’s brother – a dedicated veteran – passed away, leaving his dog without an owner. You guys jumped in so fast to help Lex get her vaccines all in order and a travel certificate provided so that she could travel to Tennessee to be w/her new owner. We owe you so much!!

I picked up Gizmo we immediately bonded! He really hasn’t left my side since. We originally picked up Gizmo to foster since he had been abandoned at a local store. My daughter and I fell head over heals for him and when the opportunity came to adopt Gizmo we immediately knew he was meant to be with us.

Audra, and Chance Shelter, we will never forget what you did for us and because of this experience I am excited about looking into the possibility of volunteering my time in the future to go be a support system for others that have to go through this so that they too will not be alone.
